Let’s do a little recap. In my last blog post
, we met the main character of our story: The Fool. We had decided to follow him on an adventure, and so far he has crossed paths with The Magician. The Fool is feeling quite magical after his encounter with this strange man, after all, he did just learned that he has the power to be, do, and have anything.
So, he is happily walking down a path and sees a beautiful temple before him. With a shrug of his shoulders, he enters and then stops dead in his tracks. There is some kind of mystical and magnificent creature before him.. She looks at him, empirically, and asks him if he dares step through the pillars and beyond the veil that’s behind her.. White Witch Grimoire
She's dressed in a robe decorated with a fabric of pomegranate fruits and sits between 2 pillars- one marked with a B and the other marked with a J. On top of her head, wings surround three phases of the moon. In her lap, she holds a book and a skull. Behind her is a veil into the abyss.
Before we discuss her message to our protagonist, let’s talk about the symbolism of this imagery.
@whitewitchgrimoire
If you are into studying cultures and various belief systems, you might have picked up on the references to the different religious paths within this card:
* The B & J on the pillars stand for Boaz and Jachin. These were the pillars to the entrance of the Temple of Solomon. This imagery represents nothing less than the gateway to spiritual wisdom.
* The pomegranates can symbolize a couple of different things depending on which religion you’re looking at. In Christianity, this fruit represents the church, and the seeds are the people gathered. In Ancient Greek symbolism, it represents Persephone- Goddess of the Underworld and spring (yeah that’s weird, more on that later)- and her cycle of death and rebirth.
* The skull represents death, while the grain held in her hand represents life and substance.
* The wings represent spiritual acuity and growth.
* The book has “TORA” scrawled on it. This represents the Sefer Torah. Though you can barely see it as most of it is hidden. This is because she will only share some of her wisdom at first, the rest she will reveal slowly and in due time.
* The moon on top of her head means mystery, secrecy and intuition. It could also represent the triple goddess (maiden, mother, crime), or even the Egyptian Goddess Hathor.
Here is The High Priestess’s message for The Fool:
All paths contain wisdom. However, you can only ascend to a higher level of self when you go beyond the veil and look for the truth that connects us all.
She is the keeper of very special knowledge. She radiates grace and power yet there is still a calm gentleness about her. She is wisdom and power in female form. The veil, the abyss behind her, is calling to The Fool. Is he ready and worthy of stepping into the unconscious and learn the mysteries? @whitewitchgrimoire
Going beyond the veil allows us to see the truth as she is already able to and to reach a higher level of enlightenment.
